The studio
Clay has a character of its own
It decides according to its mood: it twists, cracks, breaks, dries — as if to remind us that it was there before the hand that works it, and will be there long after.
It has to be tamed.

Form
From chance to mastery
Alice was first drawn to form: modelling, throwing, coiling, slabs.
Pots, vases, bowls, small dishes, plates, again and again; entrusting her work to the kiln, waiting for the result, being surprised, sometimes disappointed, analysing, understanding, trying again, improving — until chance finally gives way to mastery.
And once a piece is shaped, it becomes a blank page.

Influences
Raw colour, deep texture
Creation never comes from nothing: someone else’s work, a painting, a poem, a book, a flower… Japanese ceramics made her want to gain freedom of gesture and frankness of line. In Mexican ceramics, colour bursts out and captivates the eye.
Her work on form follows her research: enlarging and refining the surface, moving beyond the functional so that glazes have more room to express their freedom. In her studio today, Alice is reaching for scale, and returning to raw colour and deep texture — smooth, matte, rough, porous, translucent, fragile, enigmatic.
