Natures
Intense colours, raw and sensual textures.
I look for contrasts and movements of matter, intense colours and raw, sensual textures. My thin, sober surfaces, patiently coil-built and fired once, are covered with a matte, powdery slip made with Fontainebleau sand. I work with bold colours: cobalt blues, tin whites and cadmium reds. After a second firing, I partially cover my pieces with a home-made glaze, like a second skin. Then comes the moment to entrust them to the fire, at a very high temperature. At that instant, the pieces break free and come to life, beyond my control. Stripped of my power over the clay, I go through impatience, waiting, doubt and hope in turn. When the kiln opens, there is surprise and metamorphosis. The glazes have set after being tormented during the firing. The earth is generous. Fire is a creative genius. The magic always works.
